Shop floor data collection on tablet or phone. Book output while the work happens.

With shop floor data collection in Lean ERP, the operator sees what work is waiting at his workstation, starts and stops the order and books what is finished. The office sees the progress without walking around.

Which device does the operator use?

A tablet or a phone at the line. The shop floor screen is made for people who work with their hands: large buttons, little text, one screen per order.

At the top there is one search field that also works as a scan field. Scan the barcode of the order or of a work slip, and the list narrows down to that one order. Typing works too: it searches on order number, item, customer and reference at the same time.

The list only shows orders that still mean work, grouped per workstation. If zone screening is switched on, an employee only sees the workstations of his zone.

What does the operator record?

StartThe work starts running. Only then can he book output.
Pause with reasonLunch break, cleaning, product changeover or a reason your company adds itself. The time worked is kept.
ProblemChangeover, interruption, material shortage, a problem with the bill of materials or blocking. That time counts as an interruption, not as working time.
Book outputThe quantity that is finished. Over- and underproduction are limited by margins you set per company.
StopCloses the order, with a confirmation. After that, no more output is booked.
EmployeesWhoever works at a workstation signs in with their badge. The order shows who is there.

The material follows along

With every output booking, Lean consumes the components from the bill of materials, per lot, from the stock at the workplace. The operator does not have to type in any consumption, and the lots of the raw materials are linked to the finished product straight away.

If the components are not at the workplace, Lean does not book the output and the operator gets a message. That way, no stock is created without a lot.

What the operator sees on the order

Order: what he has to make, how much is already finished, for which customer and by when. Materials: what the order consumes, and how much has already been consumed. Employees: who is signed in right now. Log: the notes on this order.

On closing, the quality questions for that item follow: OK or not OK, a measurement, the number of rejected or rework pieces, with a photo or comment.

Work outside the factory

Does your team also assemble or install at the customer's site? Then they work with the work orders of the job on their phone: the day's planning, starting, pausing and stopping, the material used and photos of the work. On closing, a list shows what is still missing.

The right question at the right moment

An operator would rather fill in nothing than something that does not matter. With IRP, each step only gets the questions and information it needs, and the office sees what is still missing.

Frequently asked questions about the shop floor

Does the operator have to enter material consumption?

No. When output is booked, Lean consumes the components from the bill of materials, per lot, from the stock at the workplace.

Can the operator scan?

Yes. The search field on the shop floor screen also works as a scan field for the barcode of an order or work slip. Employees sign in with their badge.

What if there is a problem at the line?

The operator chooses "Problem" with a reason, such as changeover or material shortage. That time is recorded as an interruption.
