Manufacturing software Metal construction

ERP software for metal construction. Every order slightly different.

In metal construction, almost every order is made to measure. That is why Lean ERP starts from the order itself: you adjust the bill of materials per order, and the work orders for sawing, welding, finishing and assembly follow from it.

Does this sound familiar?

The quote has been approved, but the drawing changes twice more. The workshop has a paper work slip with the old measurements. The team that has to install does not know that the galvanised steel only arrives next week. And afterwards, nobody knows exactly what the project cost.

The problem is rarely the welding. The problem is the information that gets lost between office, workshop and site.

The order leads

This is how a made-to-order job runs in Lean.

  1. 1
Sales orderThe structure is a made-to-order line in the order, with its own bill of materials: profiles, plates, fixings and hours.
  2. 2
AdjustIf something changes, you adjust the bill of materials in the order. The item's standard stays untouched.
  3. 3
Production jobFrom the order, you create a job. Each component follows its workstation, and Lean proposes the hours per step.
  4. 4
PlanningYou plan the work orders per team or employee in the Gantt chart. Dragging moves the dates.
  5. 5
Workshop and siteThe team sees its work on the phone, starts and stops, records material and takes photos.

Material on time, even when it has to go out

Material requirements set the demand per item against what is in stock and what has been ordered. On the sales order, you see which purchase orders are planned for that order. So you know before planning whether the steel is there.

Off-site operations, such as galvanising or powder coating, have no separate out-and-back flow in Lean. How you follow them up in your orders and planning, we look at together at the start.

The drawing, the measurement, the certificate

In metal construction, a job stalls more often because of a missing plan or an unconfirmed measurement than because of a machine. With IRP, you see per work order which information that step expects and what is not there yet. Which information your steps need, we set up together.

What did the project cost?

Every order line keeps its cost price and sales price at the moment of ordering. For projects, the analysis sets ordered, actual and final cost per category side by side, with the margin after job costing.

Job costing per project starts from materials today. How hours and subcontracting are included, we discuss at the start.

Subcontractors and customers

Do you work with subcontractors for installation or assembly? Lean can open a portal for them with their projects, their planning over time and the price agreements. The portal is switched on per company and per user.

Frequently asked questions about ERP for metal construction

Can I use a different bill of materials per order?

Yes. You adjust the bill of materials in the sales order itself. The production job starts from that adjusted bill of materials; the item's standard stays unchanged.

Does the assembly team see its work on site?

Yes. The team sees its work orders for the day on the phone, starts and stops them, records the material used and adds photos.

Can I follow up off-site galvanising or painting?

There is no separate flow for outsourced operations. How you follow them up in orders and planning, we look at together at the start.
